Obverse description The national arms of Mexico occupy the central field: an eagle displayed facing left, perched upon a cactus rising from a rocky outcrop amid water, devouring a serpent grasped in its beak and talons. The eagle is rendered in high relief with detailed feathering, and the cactus and rock are flanked by laurel and oak branches tied at the base with a ribbon. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS runs along the upper periphery in raised Latin letters.
