Obverse description Vignette of the Rizal Monument in Manila occupies the left field, rendered in fine intaglio engraving with the obelisk and sculptural group clearly defined against a guilloche underprint. A large oval medallion at centre bears the numeral '1' over the word 'ONE', framed by ornate scrollwork, with denomination numerals '1' set within decorative cartouches at both lateral margins. The issuing authority 'THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT' is inscribed in bold letterpress across the upper portion, with Japanese characters and a block number printed in red below.
