| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Bernardo O'Higgins, Chilean independence hero, depicted in military uniform with epaulettes and high collar, rendered in high relief in a naturalistic style. The bust occupies the central field and extends toward the lower rim, with the engraver's signature 'R. THENOT' visible in small letters at the base of the truncation. The circular legend 'REPUBLICA DE CHILE' arcs along the upper periphery, divided on either side of the portrait. The name 'BERNARDO O'HIGGINS' is inscribed to the right of the effigy in two lines. The entire design is bordered by a beaded inner rim. |
