Obverse description A bold five-pointed star occupies the center of the field, its interior decorated with fine radial lines emanating from a central point. The regional name TARAPACA is inscribed in large raised capital letters along the upper arc, while the date 1891 appears in the lower field beneath the star. The design is notably crude and hand-engraved in style, reflecting the emergency provisional nature of this issue produced during the Chilean Civil War of 1891.
