The Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires was no stranger to crisis by 1891. The collapse of Baring Brothers in 1890 — triggered in large part by overexposure to Argentine sovereign debt — sent the Buenos Aires provincial bank into receivership and forced a complete restructuring of the provincial banking system. Notes issued in this period circulated under severe public distrust, and convertibility was effectively suspended.

PS#573 falls within the post-Baring emission, making its survival in any condition a minor document of that wreckage.
