Obverse description Central to the obverse is the national coat of arms of Costa Rica, depicting three volcanoes rising above a coastal scene with ships, surmounted by a row of five stars and a rising sun, all enclosed within a shield. The arms are flanked by laurel branches tied at the base, lending a classical framing to the design. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE COSTA RICA arcs around the upper periphery, while the date appears in the exergue below the shield. The engraving is bold and well-defined for the small module, consistent with the work attributed to Guillermo Witting.
