Obverse description Central field features a bold depiction of a volcanic mountain range in relief, with smoke or eruption issuing from the central peak, evoking the Andes cordillera. The design is enclosed within a raised inner circle. Surrounding the central motif, the circular legend reads CHILE INDEPENDIENTE, with the mint name SANTIAGO and the date 1819 positioned in the lower portion of the legend, flanking the base of the mountain design. The outer rim is decorated with a continuous radial milling pattern.
