Zalamea de la Serena, a small municipality in Badajoz province, fell within the Republican zone during the early months of the Civil War, and like dozens of similarly isolated towns it issued emergency fractional scrip when coin shortages made small transactions nearly impossible. The Consejo Municipal had no printing infrastructure worth the name — these notes were produced locally with whatever materials were at hand, which is why surviving examples frequently show uneven ink coverage and rough cutting.

The Gari Monerris catalogue entry for this series is sparse, reflecting how little documentary record these municipal emissions generated at the time of issue.
