Villalgordo del Júcar is a small municipality in Cuenca province, Castilla-La Mancha, with a population historically well under a thousand. That a Consejo Municipal here issued its own peseta denomination places it squarely within the emergency local currency phenomenon of the Spanish Civil War, when the collapse of small-coin circulation after 1936 forced hundreds of municipalities — many far smaller than any regional banking authority — to print or stamp their own fractional and unit-value notes. The Gari Montaner reference number is unassigned, suggesting either extreme rarity or incomplete documentation at the time of cataloging.
