Vilassar de Dalt is a small municipality in the Maresme comarca north of Barcelona, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during 1937, its ajuntament issued emergency fractional currency after the Republic's central coinage supply collapsed under wartime strain. The Consell Municipal controlled local economic life during this period, and these notes functioned as provisional substitutes for coins that had simply vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or lost to the disruption of the early Civil War months.
Printed locally by Imprenta Magí Ros, a press operating within the town itself. Hyper-local production of this kind makes survival rates unpredictable — print runs were small, quality control informal, and redemption after the Nationalist victory in 1939 effectively zero.
