Ponts is a small town in the Noguera comarca of Lleida, and like hundreds of Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency when the Republic's coin supply collapsed after 1936. The Ajuntament de Ponts contracted Arts Gràfiques Ilerda — a Lleida printing house that fulfilled similar commissions across the comarca — to produce this 1 Peseta note. The denomination is curious: most municipal issues at this scale targeted 25 and 50 céntims, where the coin shortage bit hardest.
