Tremp is a small town in the Pallars Jussà comarca of Lleida, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish municipalities during the Civil War, its local council issued emergency fractional currency when Republican-zone coinage essentially vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply absent. These consell municipal issues were authorized under the Generalitat de Catalunya's framework for local emergency paper, but production was purely local: a village printer, minimal security features, small runs.
Turró catalogues over three thousand such municipal emissions. That this one survives at all is mildly notable given the chaos of the 1938 Nationalist advance through Aragón, which reached the Tremp area by April of that year.
