Riudecols is a small village in the Baix Camp comarca of Tarragona, with a population that barely reached a few hundred during the 1930s. Like dozens of Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency paper currency when Republican-zone coinage disappeared almost entirely from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply not minted in sufficient quantities after 1936. These locally produced notes, collectively catalogued under the term "moneda local," were authorized under the Generalitat de Catalunya's emergency monetary decrees.
The Turró reference corpus documents over two thousand such issues. Riudecols is among the most obscure.
