| Additional information |
The Gobierno de Euzkadi issued this piece as a replica of the 1 Peseta struck by the short-lived Basque autonomous government during the Spanish Civil War. The original 1937 issue was produced under extraordinary pressure — the Basque government had only months before Bilbao fell to Francoist forces in June 1937, effectively ending the autonomous administration and halting any further coinage. Surviving originals are scarce, which explains the demand for authorized replicas among collectors of Republican-era Spanish material.
