Palau-solità is a small municipality northwest of Barcelona, and like dozens of Catalan towns during the Civil War, its ajuntament issued its own emergency fractional currency in 1937 after the Republic's coinage disappeared from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply spent faster than it could be replaced. These local issues were technically authorized under a Generalitat decree but were only valid within the issuing municipality, which kept most of them in tight geographic circulation.
Imprenta El Secretariat Català handled a significant number of these small-town emissions out of Barcelona, giving the series a certain printing consistency even as the issuing authorities varied wildly in resources and design ambition. Turró catalogues this as #1763.
