Comments

During the Spanish Civil War, the Republican zone suffered an acute shortage of small change almost immediately after July 1936. Municipalities, cooperatives, and even individual businesses across Catalonia, Valencia, and Aragon filled the gap by issuing their own emergency paper — billetes locales — with no central authorization required. Morella's cooperative issue is one of hundreds of such pieces produced in the Valencian interior, printed locally and valid only within the issuing community's immediate economic orbit.

Gari's catalog remains the primary reference for these Valencian emissions; the 976-E designation places this among the documented Morella series, though survival rates vary sharply even within a single municipality's issues.
