| Obverse description | Typographic letterpress note printed in reddish-brown ink on plain paper, enclosed within a geometric border frame. The municipal coat of arms of Morella appears to the left of the central text block, with all design elements purely typographic and devoid of pictorial vignette, characteristic of the austere emergency issues produced in the Castellón province during the Spanish Civil War. |

During the Spanish Civil War, the Republican zone suffered an acute shortage of small change almost immediately after July 1936. Municipalities, cooperatives, and even individual businesses across Catalonia, Valencia, and Aragon filled the gap by issuing their own emergency paper — billetes locales — with no central authorization required. Morella's cooperative issue is one of hundreds of such pieces produced in the Valencian interior, printed locally and valid only within the issuing community's immediate economic orbit.
Gari's catalog remains the primary reference for these Valencian emissions; the 976-E designation places this among the documented Morella series, though survival rates vary sharply even within a single municipality's issues.
