Obverse description Letterpress-printed note in black on cream paper, with a decorative floral and geometric border framing the entire face. The issuing authority's name appears in bold uppercase across the top, followed by a cursive pledge text, beneath which the denomination UNA PESSETA is set within a central panel flanked by lozenge-shaped ornamental devices. A triangular municipal coat of arms vignette is positioned to the upper right, and a circular medallion bearing the numeral 1 and PTA appears at the lower left. Three manuscript signature lines with printed role titles — El Depositari, El President, and L'Interventor — occupy the lower portion, with a handwritten serial number to the left.

Reverse description The reverse presents a blind letterpress impression of the obverse design, showing a mirror-image ghost of the border, central denomination panel, triangular coat of arms vignette, circular medallion, and signature zone, all without ink — the result of the single-sided printing process leaving an indented but uninked impression on the verso.

Monjos del Penedès is a small municipality in the Alt Penedès comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of other Catalan towns it resorted to locally printed emergency paper during the Spanish Civil War when Republican authorities faced an acute shortage of small-denomination coinage from 1936 onward. These municipal emergency notes — generally called "moneda local" or "bitllets locals" — were authorised under a framework established by the Generalitat de Catalunya, though production quality and design varied enormously from one town council to the next.

Turró's catalogue documents over 1,700 issuing entities across Catalonia; Monjos del Penedès sits firmly in the minor tier, with limited print runs and very low survival rates simply due to the small population base the notes served.
