Manlleu is a textile town in the Osona comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish municipalities during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency when Republican-zone coinage effectively vanished from circulation in 1936–37. The "Autos Pous" designation is unusual — it identifies a specific local business, likely an automotive or transport firm, as the guarantor or point of redemption rather than the municipal treasury alone. That commercial co-sponsorship of a municipal note is not unheard of in the Catalan series, but it narrows the redemption obligation considerably.
The AL (Allepuz) catalogue reference places this squarely within the vast body of Spanish Civil War local issues, most of which were rendered worthless following Franco's currency unification decrees.
