Obverse description The municipal coat of arms of Manlleu — a shield bearing an open right hand, framed by laurel branches — is set to the left within a letterpress-printed border of foliate ornament. The denomination numeral '1' appears at upper left and lower right in ornamental cartouches, with a guilloche rosette at lower left and a red serial number in a circular frame at upper right. Three manuscript signature lines are arranged horizontally across the lower centre, identified above by the titles EL SECRETARI, EL CAIXER, and EL PRESIDENT.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a large scalloped guilloche vignette in dark blue, composed of interlocking lathe-work patterns radiating symmetrically from a central circular medallion bearing the numeral '1' above the legend PESSETA. The issuer's name CONSELL MUNICIPAL arcs across the upper portion of the guilloche and MANLLEU along the lower, all rendered in bold block lettering. A red serial number is printed in a rectangular frame at the bottom centre, below which the printer's imprint appears in small letterpress type.

Comments

Manlleu is a small textile town in the Osona comarca of Catalonia, and this note is a product of the anarcho-syndicalist economic experiment that briefly took hold across the Republican zone during the Civil War. The printer — Centro de Administración Municipal, Empresa Colectiva C.N.T. — was itself a collectivized print shop operating under CNT control, which gives the production credit an unusual political weight: the note was printed by a worker-run collective for a municipally issued currency, both operating simultaneously under the same libertarian framework.

Local emergency currency of this type, catalogued under Turró's exhaustive registry of Catalan Civil War issues, was formally invalidated when Francoist forces consolidated control over the region in early 1938.
