Comments

La Selva del Camp is a small municipality in the Camp de Tarragona comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, its ajuntament issued emergency fractional currency in 1937 to compensate for the near-total disappearance of metallic coin from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply vanished in the chaos. The Republican government's inability to supply small change in sufficient quantity forced local authorities to improvise, producing what collectors now classify under the broad "billetes de necesidad" umbrella.

The official stamp is the primary anti-counterfeiting measure, applied by hand at the town hall. Given the tiny issuing population and purely local validity, surviving examples in any condition are genuinely uncommon.
