| Obverse description | Left-facing unadorned effigy of King Juan Carlos I, rendered in moderate relief with naturalistic detail to the hair and facial features. The legend JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPAÑA arcs around the upper periphery, flanked by a beaded border. The date 1980 appears in the lower field between two small five-pointed stars, which serve as mint marks indicating the year of issue within the star on the reverse. The portrait was engraved by Manuel Marín Jimeno in a restrained, contemporary style characteristic of Spanish coinage of the period. |
