Garriguella is a small municipality in the Alt Empordà comarca of Catalonia, and this note belongs to the vast ecosystem of locally issued emergency paper — moneda de paper — that flooded Republican-controlled Spain after the outbreak of the Civil War in 1936. The collapse of small-denomination coinage in circulation forced hundreds of municipalities, no matter how modest, to print their own provisional currency. Imprenta Trayter in nearby Figueres served as the practical solution for dozens of these Alt Empordà councils, which is why notes from the region share a recognizable, workmanlike production quality.
Turró's catalog documents over 1,700 issuing entities from this period. Garriguella's entry at #1098 places it well into the middle of that record — unremarkable in rank, but genuinely local in character.
