Folgueroles is a small municipality in the comarca of Osona, Catalonia, and like hundreds of other Catalan towns it issued its own emergency paper money during the Spanish Civil War after the withdrawal of metallic coinage from circulation effectively paralyzed local trade. These municipal issues — collectively known as "paper moneda local" — were authorized under Republican Catalonia's wartime economic framework, and the Consell Municipal became the de facto issuing authority in each town.

Turró catalogues only a handful of denominations for Folgueroles, suggesting the municipal series was limited in scope. The thick card stock construction is typical of issues produced without access to professional printing facilities — many were lithographed locally or by small regional printers.
