Comments

Els Guiamets is a small municipality in the Priorat comarca of Tarragona province, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish Republican townships in 1937, its local government issued emergency paper fractional currency after the Civil War effectively severed reliable coin supply. These ajuntament-issued notes — collectively documented in Turró's catalog — represent one of the more fragmented chapters in Spanish numismatic history: thousands of locally authorized emissions, many from villages with populations well under a thousand, printed under wartime conditions with limited materials.

Survival rates for Guiamets issues are low simply because so few were printed to begin with.
