El Vilosell is a village in the Les Garrigues comarca of Lleida with a population that hovered around 400 during the Civil War years — which makes this note one of the more extreme examples of hyperlocal emergency currency issued under the Republican zones' 1937 authorization for municipal governments to produce their own small-denomination paper. The practical gap being filled was the near-total disappearance of metal coinage from circulation, hoarded or melted down within the first year of the war.

Arts Gràfiques Ilerda, based in Lleida itself, printed a remarkable proportion of the Catalan municipal issues from this period — the firm effectively became a wartime utility press for the province.
