Dues-aigües is a tiny municipality in the Ribera Alta comarca of Valencia — during the Civil War, hundreds of similarly small Republican-held towns issued their own emergency fractional currency when central coinage simply ceased to circulate. The Generalitat and the Republican government both encouraged this stopgap, though coordination was minimal and the notes were only ever accepted locally.
Tipografia La Fleca in Reus produced notes for numerous municipalities across Catalonia and Valencia during this period, essentially acting as a regional emergency printer for the Republican zone. The Turró catalogue documents these issues systematically; without it, most would be nearly unidentifiable by origin.
