Domenys del Penedès is a small municipality in the Baix Penedès comarca of Catalonia, and this note belongs to the enormous wave of locally-issued emergency fractional currency — els bitllets municipals — that flooded Republican-held Catalonia from mid-1937 onward. The collapse of small-denomination coinage in circulation, partly a result of silver hoarding and wartime disruption, forced hundreds of town councils to print their own scrip under authorization from the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Arts Gràfiques Barnadas in nearby El Vendrell printed for several Penedès municipalities during this period, which sometimes makes attribution tricky when printer's marks are absent or worn. Turró's catalog remains the primary reference for distinguishing between issues that are otherwise nearly identical in format and typography.
