Castellvell del Camp is a small municipality in the Baix Camp comarca of Tarragona, and this 1 Peseta note belongs to the vast wave of local emergency currency — paper money (vales) issued by hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War when the Republic's coin supply effectively collapsed. The Generalitat de Catalunya authorized municipal emissions from mid-1936 onward, but standardization was loose and many issues, including this one, were purely local in reach.

Turró's catalog remains the authoritative reference for these emissions; his #772 attribution places it firmly within the documented Catalan municipal series.
