Municipal emergency notes from the Spanish Civil War period are rarely well-documented, and Castellar's 1 Peseta falls squarely into that undercelebrated category. Following the breakdown of the national coinage supply after July 1936, hundreds of Catalan municipalities — Castellar del Vallès among them — began issuing their own paper fractional currency to keep local commerce functioning. These notes had no legal standing outside the issuing municipality and were technically redeemable only at the local town hall.

Gari Mon#475-C is the catalogued variant for Castellar specifically. Survival rates for these hyperlocal emissions are unpredictable; some municipalities printed in tiny quantities on poor stock, others on relatively durable paper.
