| Additional information |
Cañete de las Torres was a small agricultural municipality in Córdoba whose Popular Front committee, like dozens of similar local bodies across Republican Spain, issued emergency cardboard fractional currency in 1937 to compensate for the near-total disappearance of metallic coinage from circulation. Silver had been hoarded, copper requisitioned, and the Republican government's own emergency issues were slow to reach rural Andalusia. These hyper-local emissions were often produced in runs of a few hundred pieces and redeemed — when they were redeemed at all — within a single municipality.
The absence of a Gari Morera catalog number suggests this piece was recorded but not fully classified at time of publication, or surfaced afterward.
