Campos del Río is a small municipality in Murcia, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its ayuntamiento resorted to issuing local emergency scrip when coin hoarding stripped the economy of small change. These municipal notes — referred to collectively as *billetes de necesidad* — were typically produced with whatever printing resources the town had at hand, and Campos del Río was no exception.
The Gari Montaña catalogue reference places this among the rarest of provincial emissions; small-town Murcian issues in particular suffered heavy attrition, circulating hard until worthless and seldom preserved.
