| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of George Washington, first President of the United States (1789–1797), occupies the central field. The motto "EN DIOS CREEMOS" (the Spanish equivalent of "In God We Trust") and the legend "LIBERTAD" appear in the field alongside the bust. The peripheral legend reads "ISLA DE PUERTO RICO", with the face value "UNA PESETA" and the date "2009" completing the inscription. The initials "PRM" appear as a mint or issuer mark. The overall design follows the style of the U.S. Washington quarter, adapted with Spanish-language legends for Puerto Rico. |

| Reverse description | The municipal coat of arms of Cabo Rojo is centrally displayed, featuring a shield divided into quarters bearing anchors and a central triangular charge with a torch and sword, surmounted by a mural crown. Flanking the shield are decorative laurel or palm branches. A scroll banner below the shield bears the inscription "CABO ROJO". The municipality name "Cabo Rojo" arches across the top of the field, with the foundation year "1771" to the left and the series number "# 20" to the right. The curved legend at the base reads "La Ciudad de Cofresí", referencing the municipality's historical epithet. |

| Additional information |
Cabo Rojo is one of a series of municipio-themed issues released by the Puerto Rico Numismatic Association beginning in the mid-2000s, produced as collector pieces with no circulation mandate. The series drew on earlier Spanish colonial coinage traditions, including the short-lived Puerto Rican peso issues of 1895–1896, struck in Madrid just years before the island transferred from Spanish to American sovereignty following the Treaty of Paris.
