Comments

Benidorm in 1937 was nothing like the resort town it would eventually become — it was a small fishing village, and its municipal council issued emergency paper money during the Spanish Civil War because the Republic's central government could not guarantee adequate small-denomination coinage in circulation. These local emissions, known as billetes de necesidad, were authorized by the Generalitat and proliferated across Catalonia and the Levant; Benidorm's issues are among the more obscure examples from the Valencia region.

Gari Mon #297-D indicates a specific catalog variant within the Benidorm series — likely a signature, color, or serial variation distinguishing it from closely related types.
