Additional information

Issued by the Real Casa de la Moneda as part of a centenary reproduction program, this piece replicates the 1 Peseta coinage of Alfonso XII — the Bourbon king restored to the Spanish throne in 1874 after the turbulent First Spanish Republic collapsed. The peseta itself had only been introduced in 1869, a product of the Latin Monetary Union standardization effort, making Alfonso's early reign issues among the first to carry the denomination with any institutional stability behind it.
