Albánchez is a small municipality in the Sierra de los Filabres, Almería province, and this note is one of hundreds of emergency paper issues produced by Spanish Republican town councils during the Civil War after the withdrawal of metallic coinage from circulation. The Consejo Municipal issues of 1937 were a local solution to a genuinely local crisis — without small change, daily commerce simply stopped.

The Gari Montserrat reference places this in an extraordinarily narrow collecting field. Many of these Almería provincial municipals survive in tiny quantities, sometimes with only a handful of known examples per denomination.
