| Reverse description | At centre, within a plain line circle, a decorative vignette of a grapevine bearing eleven large leaves and two pendant bunches of grapes, rendered in naturalistic style. Below the vine, within the circle, the maker's imprint T. STOKES MAKER MEL. Around the upper periphery the legend VICTORIA . 1862, and around the lower periphery the Latin motto IN VINO VERITAS. The whole is enclosed by a border of 116 beads. This is a standard Stokes stock reverse used for numerous Victorian trade token issuers, catalogued as Sharples Vine 3 = Heyde Vine 3 = Andrews 7. |
