Obverse description Draped and ermine-mantled bust of George III facing right, bare-headed, occupying the central field. A peripheral legend reads STAFFORDSHIRE 1811 PENNY TOKEN, with the date 1811 positioned below the effigy. The border is formed by a continuous row of beads. This is a noted error variety in which the letter A in STAFFORDSHIRE is struck from an inverted V punch, rendering a distinctive die anomaly recognised in specialist references.
