| Obverse description | Facing crowned bust of King Richard III rendered in the late medieval hammered style, the crown depicted with fleurs and pellets rising above long flowing hair falling to either side. The letter S appears prominently at the neck, serving as a mint or episcopal mark associated with the Durham issue. The effigy is set within an inner beaded circle, with the surrounding legend in uncial Latin script. The portrait is stylised and frontal in the characteristic English medieval penny tradition. |
