| Obverse description | The obverse bears entirely typographic text with no pictorial device. The outer legend, arranged circularly within a beaded border, reads WHOLESALE & RETAIL BUTCHER. An inner concentric legend names the issuer R.B. RIDLER, and the central field carries the business address in three lines: 187 / BRIDGE / ROAD / RICHMOND. A secondary beaded inner ring separates the outer and inner legends, giving the design a well-ordered, commercial character typical of Victorian-era Australian tradesman's tokens. |
