Reverse description A quartered heraldic shield bearing the royal arms of England and France — the fleurs-de-lis of France quartered with the passant guardant lions of England — is superimposed over a long cross fourchée that extends to the coin's edge, dividing the field into four quadrants. A mintmark appears above the shield. The mint name legend CIVI TAS LON DON is distributed around the cross in the four quadrants, identifying the London mint. The die work is consistent with hammered silver penny production of the Philip and Mary joint reign.
