Obverse description The obverse features a beaded border enclosing a circular legend band. The central field bears the raised inscription ONE PENNY in two lines. The surrounding legend reads MONROE CHAPTER NO. 18 R.A.M. CHARTERED FEB. 22ND above, with the date 1854 and MONROE, LA. below, separated by small decorative stops.

Reverse description The reverse displays a large keystone-shaped shield in the central field, flanked on either side by Masonic implements — a plumb line to the left and a pitcher or ewer to the right. The keystone bears the Royal Arch cipher letters arranged around a central circular boss, with ornate scrollwork decorating the border of the shield. A beaded outer border frames the design.
