| Reverse description | A cherub head with outspread wings is prominently displayed at the apex of the design, radiating a sunburst effect above a centrally placed lyre flanked by additional musical instruments including a bugle and drumsticks, all resting upon a partially open wreath of laurel branches that frames the composition on three sides. The inscription MILNER & THOMPSON'S CANTERBURY MUSIC DEPOT & PIANOFORTE WAREHOUSE encircles the upper and lateral periphery, with CHRISTCHURCH and the date 1881 inscribed in two lines across the lower field within the wreath. The overall design is rendered in a finely detailed relief consistent with the commercial trade token engraving practice of the period. A beaded border frames the entire reverse. |
