| Obverse description | A winged angel figure is depicted centrally above a symmetrical arrangement of musical instruments, including a lyre and what appear to be wind and string instruments, all enclosed within laurel branches. The entire design is set within a beaded border, with the full merchant legend arranged around the periphery of the field. The date 1881 appears in the lower portion of the design, below the central motif. The inscription CHRISTCHURCH is positioned immediately above the date, separating it from the instrument grouping. The overall composition is executed in a decorative Victorian commercial style typical of colonial trade tokens. |
