Obverse description Heraldic achievement of the Earls of Peterborough (Mordaunt family) occupying the central field, comprising a shield charged with a chevron between three mullets above and below, surmounted by an earl's coronet and a crest. Two avian supporters flank the shield on either side — an eagle displayed to the left and a cockatrice to the right. A foliate mantling issues from behind the coronet. The Latin motto legend NEC PLACIDO CONTENTA QUIETE EST curves along the lower periphery, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.

Reverse description Plain, unadorned field bearing a bold two-line inscription in Roman capital letters. The place name HALSALL is struck prominently across the upper portion of the field, with the denomination initial D (denoting one penny) centered beneath in a slightly smaller character. The design is entirely typographic with no additional ornament, and a beaded border runs continuously around the rim.
