Reverse description A long voided cross divides the reverse field into four quarters, with a crown and fleur-de-lis alternating in the angles, all contained within a beaded inner circle. The cross extends to the border, creating four distinct compartments each bearing one of the decorative charges. The surrounding legend, struck in Gothic uncial script, reads VILLA EDINBVRGH, identifying Edinburgh as the mint town. The design is characteristic of the pennies issued under the authority of the Edinburgh mint during the reign of James IV.
