Obverse description Full-facing enthroned effigy of King Henry VII in the 'Sovereign' style, depicted holding an orb in one hand and a sceptre topped by a saltire cross in the other. Two vertical pillars, each surmounted by a saltire, flank the royal figure on either side. The legend in uncial Latin characters runs around the periphery of the coin. The portrait is rendered in the bold, schematic style characteristic of late fifteenth-century English hammered silver coinage.
