| Obverse description | Facing crowned bust of King Henry IV rendered in the crude, high-relief style characteristic of late medieval hammered English coinage. The king is depicted full-face with a prominent trefoil-ornamented crown, stylized hair falling to either side, and a plain neck. The bust is centrally positioned in the field, with a raised inner circle framing the effigy. A continuous Latin legend in uncial lettering surrounds the design within the outer border, reading + hEnRIC REX AnGLIE. |

| Reverse description | A long cross pattée extending to the coin's edge divides the field into four quarters, each containing a trefoil ornament. The design follows the standard English medieval penny reverse type, with the cross serving both a religious and functional purpose as a guide for cutting the coin into halfpennies or farthings. A small annulet or slipped trefoil appears before the mint name LON in the legend. The surrounding Latin legend in uncial lettering reads CIVI TAS LON DON, denoting the City of London as the place of minting. |
