| Obverse description | Crude, degraded facing crowned bust of King Henry III rendered in the debased style characteristic of Short Cross class 8b, with the king holding a sceptre before him. The portrait exhibits the characteristic wedge-shaped letter X and a cross pommée as the initial mark. The legend in uncial Latin characters is disposed around the periphery within a beaded inner circle. The overall execution reflects the artistic decline associated with the later issues of the Short Cross series. |
