| Obverse description | Facing crowned bust of King Henry III rendered in the transitional class 3a-3b style, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The king is depicted with a stylised crown and incised facial features characteristic of mid-13th century English hammered coinage. A circumscribed legend in uncial Latin letters surrounds the central effigy. The flan is slightly irregular in outline, as is typical of hand-struck medieval pennies of this period. |
