Obverse description Bare-headed left-facing effigy of King George VI, modelled by Thomas Humphrey Paget, occupies the central field. The king is depicted with naturalistically rendered hair and a plain truncation at the shoulder. The peripheral legend, separated by stops, reads GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX FIDEI DEF., denoting his titles as King of all the Britains and Defender of the Faith but notably omitting the IND:IMP (Emperor of India) title used on earlier issues. The legend is set within a beaded border that encircles the entire obverse.
